I went to get an oil change done on July 16, 2009 at the Meinike location at 2085 N hill Field Rd in Layton. When my husband had gotten his done he received a free oil change which I used. They approached me about changing the air filter (which didn’t really looked that bad - they agreed it was only 60% clogged, but since I was there….)and I agreed at the $18.21 quoted price. When handed the bill I saw that they charged me for an extra quart of oil stating that only 5 qt were included. I questioned this (even showing them the owner manual) and some other charges as well and was told that was just the way it was. After consulting the owner’s manual again and confirming with Mazda, I went back there the next day to question about the overage of the one quart and was told that was just how much they had to put into my car. When I told them that the manufacturer clearly states 5 quarts, but was once again told that the manufacturer was wrong and that my car takes six quarts after draining, which it never did before. The other item in questions was in the total. The total charge was $56.95 minus the $34.99 for the free oil change, which should have come out to $21.96 (if I include the bogus $3.75 for the 1 quart of oil). Instead there was a breakdown of shop supplies, total parts, and labor which all of a sudden brought the total to $26.16. Every time I was told the same – an oil change or air filter change total does not include labor and shop supplies, which was news to me. A quote is a quote. Even though it is only a small amount of money, it is the principal of things – and overcharging every customer……..A few more stories about them – while I was waiting for my car to get done a lady walks in complaining about the tire balance and rotation they did on her car and she can no longer go faster than 40 miles per hour. You know what they told her – sometimes tires after being rotated and balanced they need to be unbalanced to work correctly. Admit when you screw up. When I told my husband about all of this, he remembered when getting his oil change done the store was working on an air conditioner that needed Freon and they had no clue on how to convert liters to quarts and how much to charge. I don’t know about you, but I will never bring my car to a Meineke again.
